What motivates you to participate in the the Building & Living Platform?
This is a highly relevant issue: how can we create new living space not on ‘greenfield sites’ with even more sealing of land, but by using and densifying the already built environment, sealed areas and already built infrastructure?”
What do you think are the most important topics to work on?
This isn’t about developing more “construction technology”, it’s about how we can use existing technologies for serial and modular construction in the context of densification. In addition to the technical issues of adapting building methods, there are primarily legal and planning-related questions that need to be addressed. Moreover, social issues must be resolved. Redensification always means change for existing buildings, and this change must be moderated and made attractive. We must also identify and communicate the benefits for the people already living there.
Where and how do you think the working group can hace the greatest impact?
We need to focus on how we, as the construction industry, can "get things moving". To do this, we must identify which construction methods are most effective in terms of climate protection and then highlight the current obstacles. These obstacles will lie in planning and construction processes, but the main goal must be to clearly show (political) decision-makers which regulations need to be adjusted. Additionally, we must develop strategies to encourage current land and property owners to invest. In collaboration with the other two working groups, effective communication strategies will be key.
